Typical Practice

  • Practice is usually two hours long.
  • Practice starts with warm-up on land.
  • We usually spend 60 to 90 minutes on the water.
  • We will have indoor workouts during inclement weather (thunderstorms, freezing).
  • You will get blisters on your hands when you start.

Typical Regatta Weekend

  • For races less than two hours away (Oak Ridge, Chattanooga), we usually travel the morning of the competition. For races farther away, we will go the night before.
  • In the fall you will race 5,000 meters and race only once per event.  In the spring you will race 2,000 meters and usually have one heat in the morning and a final in the afternoon.
  • Regattas usually end around 4 p.m. and we usually travel back that night.
  • There is a lot of dead time between races at regattas. Make sure you bring homework and study materials (during the school year).
