Thanks for your interest in rowing lessons.

Demand for rowing lessons in Knoxville has been very high in the past few years. Please read all information below regarding lessons.

KRA will be offering Immersion Weekends beginning in the Spring of 2009.  The cost is $150, payable up front. The schedule for each Immersion Weekend is Friday 6:30-8:00 PM at the Downtown Knoxville YMCA, Saturday 9:00 AM to 1 PM at the Ned McWherter/Riverside Landing Park, and Sunday 9:00 AM to 1 PM at the Ned McWherter/Riverside Landing Park.

The lessons will be offered on the following weekends:

  • April 24-26, 2009
  • May 29-31, 2009

Immersion Weekends provide an overview of rowing in an intense, one-weekend session, with the goal to provide an introduction to sweep rowing (one oar per rower).  The lessons include erging (rowing on land-based rowing machines), viewing of video, and rowing in a boat on the water.

The class size is held to a maximum of 14 students. This class is designed for people with no experience, but is also a good refresher for someone who has taken lessons and wants to get back into rowing.  After completing the lessons, participants will then have the option of joining the Knoxville Rowing Association and participating on a regular basis in group rows.  Coaching assistance is provided on Monday evenings at 6:30 PM throughout the summer. The club also rows together on Wednesdays at 6:30 PM and Saturday mornings.

If you have any questions or would like to reserve a space for future Immersion Weekends, please email and include "KRA" in the subject line. In addition to the option of  registering/paying online (see above), you may choose to mail your check to KRA, P.O. Box 10440, Knoxville, Tennessee 37939
